Armenia Alliance Condemns Arrest of Gagik Tsarukyan as Politically Motivated
06 July 2026
The Armenia Alliance condemns the arrest of Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan, carried out as part of what it described as an overt campaign of political retaliation, as well as the actions conducted today at businesses owned by members of his family.
The alliance stated the following:
We affirm that the current regime’s practice of turning law enforcement agencies into instruments of political repression and using them to intimidate political opponents falls outside any legal rationale and reflects the fears of the ruling authorities.
The violation of property rights and the use of economic pressure constitute a direct blow to the country’s investment climate and economic security.
It is evident that through such actions, the ruling regime is attempting to conceal its crisis of legitimacy and eliminate all potential centers of resistance in pursuit of its anti-state objectives.
The Armenia Alliance expressed its support for Gagik Tsarukyan and for all individuals it says are being persecuted for political reasons.
The statement also called on the international community to closely monitor post-election developments in Armenia and urged international actors to make clear assessments in order to prevent what it described as the consolidation of an authoritarian regime in the country.
