Five Armenian Opposition Forces Announce Joint Political Resistance Agenda Following Constitutional Court Ruling
04 July 2026
Today, the Constitutional Court published its ruling on the appeals challenging the results of the recent parliamentary elections.
According to the signatories, the Constitutional Court’s decision:
- Does not resolve the question of the legitimacy of the emerging government. Under these circumstances and based on the announced results, the government being formed lacks legitimacy.
- Does not remedy electoral fraud, eliminate the widespread electoral violations, or resolve the country’s deep political and legal crisis.
On the contrary, the statement argues that the Constitutional Court’s refusal to acknowledge the documented violations further deepens the country’s crisis, does not contribute to national reconciliation, and shifts the struggle into the sphere of political resistance.
Accordingly, in order to overcome the current political crisis and restore constitutional order, the undersigned political forces announced that they have reached consensus on the following fundamental priorities and agreed to pursue a unified political agenda:
1. Preventing Imposed Constitutional Changes
Viewing the constitutional amendments being prepared by the current government as externally imposed, the signatories said they will use all legislative, political, and public means available to prevent changes to Armenia’s Constitution, arguing that such amendments would constitute a direct and irreversible blow to the country’s sovereignty.
2. Defending the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church
Citing what they described as a coordinated and unlawful campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Catholicos of All Armenians, the statement says protecting the Church’s constitutionally recognized mission, rights, property, and reputation from any encroachment will remain a cornerstone of their political agenda.
3. Protecting Political Prisoners
The statement claims that a new wave of political repression has begun in the post-election period and that the country’s repressive practices have resulted in a significant increase in the number of political prisoners. The signatories pledged to coordinate efforts to defend their rights and demand their immediate release.
4. Removing the Current Government
According to the statement, the Constitutional Court’s review of the opposition’s complaints confirmed that the removal of the current government has become an imperative with no alternative. The signatories argue that political change and the formation of a new national government remain the only prerequisites for restoring constitutional order, achieving national unity, and ensuring the country’s security.
The statement further asserts that, amid what it describes as the dismantling of legal institutions, the citizens of the Republic of Armenia remain the only guarantors of the preservation of the state and the constitutional order.
Addressing the public, the opposition groups said:
This decision of the Constitutional Court is not the end of the struggle, but the beginning of a new, more systematic, institutional, and large-scale phase of political resistance.
They added that discussions among the opposition parties regarding future joint actions are continuing and that additional coordinated initiatives will be announced in the near future.
